Training Will Take Place September 11, 2024; Deadline to Register is September 5

The Court will offer on September 11 a Bench Conduct and Demeanor Training for attorneys interested in becoming a temporary judge with the Superior Court of Los Angeles County. The training will take place via Microsoft Teams and will be provided pursuant to California Rules of Court, Rule 2.812, et seq.

The training is one of several requirements attorneys must complete for consideration to serve as a temporary judge. Attorneys who have been a member of the State Bar of California for 10 years are eligible to apply as a temporary judge. See below for training details:

  • PROGRAM: Bench Conduct and Demeanor for Temporary Judges
  • TIME: 1 – 4 p.m.
  • DATE: September 11, 2024
  • LOCATION: Via Microsoft Teams

Pre-registration is available online using this link. For further training details and registration information, contact the Temporary Judge Program at TempJudgeProgram@lacourt.org or 213-830-0870.

The Court is the program sponsor and is approved as a provider of Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) credit by the State Bar of California (Provider No. 485). The training is intended for participants interested in applying to the Court’s Temporary Judge Program.

This training program will qualify for three hours of participatory MCLE credit by the State Bar of California: one hour will apply to elimination of bias in the legal profession credit; one hour will apply to legal ethics credit; and one hour will apply to general credit (of which zero hours will apply to prevention, detection and treatment of substance abuse/mental illness that impairs professional competence).

Please be advised that the decision to appoint an attorney as a temporary judge is within the discretion of the Presiding Judge. An assignment to serve as a temporary judge does not constitute an employment relationship with the Court.

For further information on the Temporary Judge Program, including requirements, disqualification, etc., see California Rules of Court, Rules 2.810-819, 10.740-10.746; Code of Ethics, Canon 6D.
